You may think creating an end of life plan is complicated but did you know you can make one at home in a few days without spending any money? All you have to do is complete these three essential steps:
Fill out an Advance Directive | The key to protecting your long-term health, it provides written instructions about what type of medical treatments you want (and do not want) if you’re ever unable to make decisions for yourself. Without one, your doctors and family will have to make crucial decisions for you, and may be left wondering if they’re honoring your wishes.
Create a Last Will | Stipulates how you want your assets to be distributed. Passing away without one means a probate court will decide your estate for you. The five main steps that go into writing a Will are: name your Executor, take inventory of your assets, name your beneficiaries, decide how your assets will be divided and select a guardian of your (minor) children.
Pre-plan your Funeral | Takes the burden off your loved ones by putting in writing the type of memorial you want. Without a plan, they may be unsure how you want to be remembered and will have to decide during a difficult and emotional time. A funeral plan can be as simple as, “I want to be cremated,” but if you want a formal service, some people are buying funeral insurance and planning every facet of their memorial.
